Episode 2 Show Notes: The average cost of a 4-year college education is nearly $100,000. You or your family paid, will pay, or will pay back the banks the $100,000, yet you don’t get to chose what you want to major in. You can chose one of the 100-150 majors that “they” put on “the list,” but you can’t just major in anything you want, which is bananas because the best subject to major in is not even on the list. None of the best subjects to major in are on the list. The things that matter most, those which will lead you to the most happiness, success and fulfillment aren’t on the list. If you’re going to invest $100,000 in an education, shouldn’t you be able to learn about whatever you want? Even if it’s not on the list? Of course you should! And you can! And you are! Here at the Above Ground Railroad. And it’s not going to cost you $100,000. It’s not going to cost you anything! Enjoy!

Hi everyone I’m Christopher Hughes, the lead conductor of the Above Ground Railroad, a freedom-focused personal development podcast. And this, is Episode 2.
In the last episode, we talked a whole lot about education, and we’re going to continue where we left off. So check it out…
Whether a private school, or public school, state school, University, State University, College, instate tuition, out of state tuition… doesn’t matter… add all of that up, and the average price for a year in college or university is $23,443. You got it? That’s for a year. $23,443 a year times a 4 year degree, equals $93,770. We’re going to call it a hundred grand.
We also talked a little bit about cars in the last episode. Now imagine going into a car dealership with 100 grand and saying, “Hey I want a car with leather, I want doors that go up, I want GPS and I want automatic pilot,” and they look at you crazy, and say, “No, no, no, no, no! Here’s the list.”
You look at the list that they give you and you say, “What is this?” And they say, “Those are the choices that you get.” And you say, “I don’t even see air conditioning on this list, are you kidding me!? And they say, “Well you’re not going to get air conditioning!”
And you say, “What do you mean I’m not going to get air conditioning? I’ve got a hundred thousand dollars burning a hole in my pocket. Let me tell you what I’m going to get. I’m going to get air conditioning. Matter of fact I’m going to get everything that I want!”
“No.” They say, “Actually, you’re not! You’re not going to get air conditioning, and you’re not going to get everything that you want. You’re going to look at this list and you’re going to pick something on this list!”
Can you imagine? Well guess what? That’s exactly what is happening when we go to college or university. We don’t go in and tell them what we want. We go in and let them tell us what they want! They shove the list in front of us before the conversation ever begins and we make our choices based upon what they say, based upon what they put in front of us!
Now, I know that there are exceptions to this. There’s probably people listening saying, “No! I always wanted to study X!” Like my brothers, they’re very successful chiropractors, and they’ve always wanted to be chiropractors since they were very very young. Well guess what? They were raised up to be chiropractor’s. You know, my dad taught us that. My dad was a healer. He was not a chiropractor but he had studied, as a student… you know not a formal education in chiropractic school, but just as a an interested observer. He had seen people be healed by chiropractic, and he began to learn it, and he experimented on his kids! But there were so many times we were like, “Hey Dad, this isn’t feeling good, or this isn’t working.” We lay down and our dad would give us an adjustment, and like magic all of a sudden we were better. So yes, some people are raised saying, “I want to be an accountant” Well, you got to ask yourself why. They probably had someone who influenced them, who planted that seed whether they can remember it or not.
If we were “allowed” to go to university and major in whatever we wanted, and if that were ingrained in all of us since the time that we were young, that we could choose whatever you want, but instead they say, “Here’s the list! Pick a major!” But I guarantee you if we could have chosen whatever we wanted to choose, we would have chosen something different.
I want to do the grand reveal right now but I think I’ll wait. But with a 100 grand, you should be able to get whatever you want.
Right now, I’m looking at this list of majors for college. It starts with number one, accounting. Number two, actuarial science… sounds fascinating. Number three, advertising. Number four, agriculture. I’m glad to see that that made the list. That’s important. And you go through the list, all the way through…you know, the A’s, the B’s, the C’s, and so on, and it ends up at number 100, the W’s, women’s studies.
So really what you have when you look at this list, is you have a false choice. And what’s a false choice? It’s like this game that my kids play. It’s funny, but it really bothers me. I think they call the game, “Would You Rather.” But, we should really call it a false choice.
My kids and I will be driving down the road, and they play a game, and they ask questions like… would you rather would you rather break your toe. Or would you rather puke all day everyday for a week? And I hear my kids kind of thinking out loud.. “Would I want to stub my toe? Well that would be painful.. but only for a little while. No. Break your toe. Would I want to break break my toe? Or puke for a week?”
And I’m like what is going on y’all?! What about would you rather be a millionaire billionaire? Would you rather be health or super healthy? Would you rather be amazing or super-duper amazing? What is this break your toe or puke for a week?
It’s a false choice and that’s all we get when we go and get a formal education, because we are learning what they want us to learn about, and nobody questions that! Nobody recoils! Nobody protests! They just go, “OK. Um…All right. So this is… OK so… I guess I have to pick something off this list.”.
If you were like my brothers who knew exactly what they wanted to do in life, that’s great. I went to college for five years I had no clue what I wanted to do, even after five years.
You look at the list… thinking.. “Oh Fizi.. physiology physiology.. that sounds interesting… physiology… Fizi… physical… Fizi. What is that? Is that like… like physical fitness? Could I be a teacher? Like a coach? Physiology.”
These are kids! And we were kids! What do we know?! We’re just in this matrix of common consciousness, going down this treadmill, this pathway, this moving sidewalk to oblivion. And we don’t even know what physiology is, but it sounds interesting!
I’ll never forget when I went to my first parent/teacher conference with my son, my oldest son, I believe he was 5 years old. I’ve got four kids… three boys and a little girl. The teachers got this piece of paper. You know, the review of my son, or whatever, and the teacher didn’t say, “Oh my gosh! Ryell is so good at this! He’s killing the game over here! He’s blowing my mind over here!” No! It wasn’t like that! She started showing us where he was weak. She’s got her pencil and she’s showing us this ridiculous report, and says, “You know he’s got this little weakness here in this area, and this one over here. You know. He’s a good boy. You know, I mean he’s a good boy, but I’m a little concerned about this area…”.
And I’m like hold up! Hold up! Miss Smith, or whatever your name is. You know what we’re not seen on your little report there? You know I’m not seen on your list? I’m not see an awesome kid! I’m not seeing that on your list! He’s an awesome kid! It’s not on your list. Awesome kid. You know what else isn’t on the list? That he will blow your mind at bike riding! That’s right! He’s only five. Do you know what he said to me when he was 4 years old? “Hey dad. I don’t want all these wheels on my bike. Can you take off my training wheels? I only want two wheels.” So I did it, and in seconds, all by himself, he was riding around on the concrete that was around our house..the house that we were living in at the time just had concrete literally all the way around it. He just went around, and around, and around. He was 4 years old! Miss Smith I don’t see that on the list!
See, as a society we let people pigeonhole us. How is that ok? If you’re going to spend a hundred thousand dollars on an education you should be able to get whatever the heck you want! You should be able to major in whatever you want to major in, and here’s the kicker! Here’s the grand reveal…
YOU CAN STUDY WHATEVER YOU WANT!
You can study whatever you want, just not at these outdated institutions! Right now you are learning about freedom. This is an educational experience that you’re having right now. Do you know what’s not on the list, that list of 100 things, or whatever is. My list is 100, but maybe years is longer… the list of majors that you get at college or university. Freedom is not on the list! Freedom is not on the list! You know what else isn’t on the list? Love isn’t on the list. Compassion isn’t on the list. Kindness isn’t on the list. Spirituality isn’t on the list! The things that really matter most aren’t on the list! And people say, “Well you can’t get paid doing that stuff! You can’t make a living and there’s no career path studying spirituality!” Look, there’s no career path studying philosophy. There’s no career path for most of this stuff! Because most of the people who have graduated from college today can’t find full time work in their chosen profession, and yet they are noosed with a hundred thousand dollars in school debt.
Did you know that 75% of the people that have a college degree are not working in an area that’s even remotely related to their degree, to their area of study? Did you hear that? 75% of college grads are working in a field completely unrelated to their degree? So in other words, there is no career path for any of this stuff unless you hyper-focus on something, and you’re going to be a professional… a doctor, a lawyer, or an accountant.
I referenced my brother’s earlier. My brothers became doctors, at the cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars, and they ended up not practicing as chiropractors! They started other businesses in completely unrelated fields, took jobs in completely unrelated fields. Now, it has a happy ending. Now they’re back to their passion and back to the thing that they always wanted to do and running this very successful practice.
So, 75% of us aren’t working in the area that we got our degree in. We’re not even utilizing that information.
What if… those 75% of people… what if they had studied freedom for four years? You think they’d be better or worse off? I’m here to tell you, as a student of freedom, who has made millions, and millions of dollars, and become a best selling author, and have dozens and dozens of sources of income, and I’m able to do whatever it is that I want to do, and who was able to retire in my 30s, and I have a super cool life! A super cool life. I’m not the richest guy I know… far from it, but I’m one of the freest, and that was, and has been, and is my area of study and teaching and passionate exploration!
This is where the Above Ground Railroad comes in, because you’re not going to spend a hundred thousand dollars on this education of freedom; not only freedom, but of uncommon freedom. You’re not going to spend anything, as a matter of fact! I may have products and services down the road, but that’s all election! That’s all voluntary! You don’t have to do that. I’m giving back through this podcast…at no charge. All you can eat, and you can share it with as many people as you want to share it with.
What we’re going to talk about is what I refer to as the, “Seven Pillars of Uncommon Freedom.”
Pillar number one: Mind freedom.
It was the famous playwright Archibald MacLeish who once said, “The only thing about a man, that is a man. is his mind. Everything else can be found in a pig or a horse.”
Lest we live lives like that of the beasts… of a common animal, we must begin to utilize, to harness, to activate, to leverage, the one thing that differentiates us from the animals, and that is your mind. Specifically, the higher faculties of your mind, and your ability to think and to aspire. So pillar number one, and it is the foundational pillar of the Seven Pillars of Uncommon Freedom, is mind freedom, and really, most of the work that we’re going to be doing together is going to be liberating your mind. Remember, if you can convince a man that he is free, he will never attempt to escape! But it’s not only our minds where we are in bondage…
Pillar number two: Time freedom
DO you know what I have? Time freedom. Do you know what I could be doing right now? It’s Tuesday. I could be doing anything I want to do. I could be anywhere in the world, but where am I? I’m in my studio recording this information. And why. Because I feel a duty to do it. I love to do it. I have passion to do it, and I feel called to do it. But also I really enjoy it. I enjoy what I’m doing right now, as much as I enjoy playing sand volleyball on the beach and then taking a break to go eat sushi. And those of you that know me, and know me well, know that I really, really enjoy that! And, I’m enjoying this as much as I enjoy that. Yes, I have time freedom to do whatever it is that I want to do!
Wouldn’t it be nice to have time freedom? To not have to answer to anyone? No company, no boss, no organization, no institution. Wouldn’t that be fabulous?
I’m a little off track right now, but do you know what the Spirit wants (for those of you that believe that you are not this flesh and bone, that behind the flesh and bone is a spirit)? The spirit wants Spirit wants immensity. The Spirit wants freedom. The Spirit wants sovereignty.
Pillar number three: Money freedom
You’re scrolling on Facebook or Instagram and you see this incredible vacation all inclusive and it’s only $2,900, and you’re going to go to Tahiti! Wouldn’t it be nice to feel a desire well up inside of you, in your Spirit and in your heart, and in that moment click the link and buy the trip, because you have money freedom and time freedom? Wouldn’t that be incredible?
This is my belief. Try this on. It’s my belief that if you desire something, and that something is something good, that will enhance your life and/or the lives of others, and it brings no harm, and casts no shadow on yourself or another human being, that if you have a desire meeting that description, that that desire is good. And in fact, from the Latin, the word desire literally translates to, “from the Father.”
So these desires if you’re scrolling and you see these pictures, or these incredible videos and that desire wells up in you, that is of the Father, and shouldn’t you be able to take that trip? My contention is absolutely! But you’ve got to be free! You have to be free in order to take that trip. You’ve got to be free to do so much of what we desire to do!
Pillar number four: Health freedom.
What good is a bucket of money and a whole bunch of time, but you’ve got no health? You’ve got to learn the truth about health and healing and vitality. And by the way, virtually everything that we have been taught is making us sick! It’s propaganda and advertising! It is not an education on health and wellness. But I digress. We’ll save that for another episode…. maybe four or five.
Pillar number five:. Emotional freedom.
So many people are in bondage emotionally, to someone who’s not even alive anymore, or to someone that they don’t even know what their name is, or to a father or to a mother or even to a spouse or some other family member.
They are incarcerated! They are in bondage! Emotional bondage, and we’ll be talking about how to liberate yourself from those and many, many other things!
Pillar number six: Spiritual freedom
A lot of us are religious, but not too many of us are spiritual. A lot of people believe that they are this body of flesh and bone and blood, when in fact we are not a physical being having a spiritual experience, we are a spiritual being having a physical experience, and we’ve got to understand that! We’ll talk about what that means, what spiritual freedom means, and what it looks like, and how beautiful it can be as we attain it.
And the final pillar…
Pillar number 7: Unconditional Love
Unconditional Love is the ultimate freedom. When you are able to love those who love you, and you are able to love those who hate you; that you can forgive those who love you, and you can also forgive those who hate you. You can forgive those who have brought purposeful harm and accidental harm to you. Unconditional love. So much to discuss on this.
The closer and closer that we get to unconditional love, the further and further we get away from ego, from the animal brain… the reptilian brain.
You see, there is this place between stimulus and response and that place is what makes you human if you observe that space. If you reverence that space… honor that space.
We’ve all sees the crocodile with his with his mouth gaping open and the man sticks his head into the alligator’s mouth, and a drop of sweat falls from the man’s brow onto the crocodiles tongue and the crocodile clamps down, crushing the skull!
Why did that happen? Because it’s a crocodile! It’s called stimulus and response. The crocodile was more than willing, after having been trained a little bit, to sit there with his mouth open and let some person put their head inside his mouth. But when the sweat dropped from the man’s brow and landed on the tongue, all training went out the window. The jaws clamped down.
That’s stimulus and response. As humans, we have a choice about our response. Most people react. Responding is better, but even better than responding is honoring that space between stimulus and response; in that tiny space between stimulus and response, we choose to be human, we chose to be loving, rather than clamping down on someones head! As we get further away from ego and closer to unconditional love, the responses that we make will have the net result in our lives, that our lives are better, more peaceful and enjoyable, less friction and contention.
We’ll be having many, many, many conversations about these seven pillars of uncommon freedom. And most of our discussions are going to go back to mind freedom because of what we’ve been taught, and propagandized and inculturated about time, about money, about what we’re supposed to do with our time, or how we’re supposed to get money. Most people work for money, but you’re not supposed to work for money, money should be working for you. Money is a tool! money is should not be the master! But it is for most people! Most people are working for money, and they’re really not working for money, they’re working for the money to give it to the bank.
Again all that we think about and feel about the actions that we take in our lives, all of that goes back to the things that we’ve been taught that were true, most of which is not true! Some of you may agree. Some of you may disagree. I’m just asking you to try, this, on! Just try it on man!
Next week is going to be fun because we’re going to be talking about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Some of you’ve already figured it out. The Above Ground Railroad is a play on the Underground Railroad, the famed Underground Railroad, and the famed Harriet Tubman and all tie it all together next week.
Before I go let me make my first appeal to you. If this information resonates, if you feel like we’re on the right track, or if you’re just at least open to being on the right track, would you please share this information? Would you give me a review on the podcast, and if you’re not all the way on board with me, I’d rather you not give me a review! 🙂 I don’t want any haters. Please don’t! Don’t do that! Karma is watching. 🙂 Be kind to me please. But if you are willing to leave me a delicious review wherever it is that you listen to your podcasts, I would really appreciate it. And for those of you that know me, and those of you that don’t know me but who would be willing, if you would be willing to share this podcast on your social media sites, or maybe just tag a couple of friends… post it and tag a couple of friends, I would really really appreciate that.
So, with that this is Episode 2 in the can. I hope you’ll join me next week in episode 3.
Until then everybody remember that freedom is absolutely possible not only freedom but uncommon freedom. It is possible. You can. Your choice. Bye for now.
